Remember when we would read The Hobbit,
and I told you Bilbo could be a girl,
you got as excited as a squirrel,
ran ‘round the house ‘til I told you, “stop it!”
Such tears about this book being for boys
because some princess girl teased you at play
said only the guys had dragons to slay,
bless me, I never heard such a noise.
You walked with wild things o’er some tea party,
fought orcs, slayed spiders, riddled with Gollum,
all from bedtime words from me you call Mom,
such a grand adventure we had started
down the road of all our sweet yesterdays
where missing you seems to drift far away.
